I think I got lucky. Stuck at work all day, watching the onshore white caps, wind building, but no escape and high tide in the way for mid afternoon. Then that almighty rain storm came just before 5 and I thought it was all over. Drove at speed to Shoreham anyway, arrived at 5:25pm and lo and behold it was blowing, whitecaps and cross on direction. Good swell. Rigged up 5.5m and it was more sideshore already. Full power on that sail, stuck it out for half an hour, but rigged down onto the 5m when it was getting out of hand. Wind now cross shore, waves waist to chest high. Downwind turns to be had out back and in the shallows. At one point the numbers swelled to a staggering 3 windsurfers. In the end, the wind had even swung a touch offshore, with waves still coming in. That doesnt happen many times a year, especially still with 25mph blowing through. Lots of rides linking some very satisfying clean full rail carves. Swell eased to 2 foot as the tide headed out, still fun, but more wind shadow, so called it a day at 7:15pm.
